So, American Fork has an annual city festival in July called "Steel Days." Part of the festivities include a parade, a carnival, races, and fireworks. Last year we were brand-spanking new to these parts so the first thing I knew about Steel Days was when I discovered you couldn't get to the library easily one day because the park in front of it had been taken over by carnival rides. Then a few days later, late at night, I heard all these bangs and booms so I went outside to see what was going on and discovered there were fireworks going off. This year, thanks to the American Fork High School Marching Band, and Nile's new hobby of running 5K races, our Steel Days involvement was quite a contrast to last year's involvement.
Jumble marched in the parade:

Jet and Niles ran in the races:

(Didn't manage to get a photo of Niles, but this is Jet in his t-shirt and medal.) Jet got bumped and fell down very early in his 1/2 mile race--causing considerable damage to the skin on his knee--but got back up and finished the race anyway.
And I flipped pancakes for 3 1/2 hours at the American Fork High School Marching Band Steel Days Breakfast funraiser:

(It is very painful for me to post this photo of myself but I'm doing it anyway. I may need proof in the next life that I did at least one good thing as a mom and community member.)

I was wondering why you spent 3 1/2 hours flipping pancakes; now I understand! That photo is not bad...and you've done lots of good things as a mother and community member!
I am bummed we missed the breakfast--Tim went to play tennis with Ryan Taylor at 7 AM then the kids had a Primary activity that morning as well so we didn't venture out! Hope it was a success!
It was--served about 2100 people, they estimate. I wondered where you guys were!
I'm proud of you :)
